The strategic acquisition of Maxer Endoscopy, a technology leader in fluorescence-assisted surgery, adds significant momentum to the growth of Erbe's surgical endoscopy business.
ConAlliance advised and supported Erbe Elektromedizin in this transaction as an M&A advisor. Together with its long-standing client Erbe Elektromedizin, ConAlliance initially developed the acquisition strategy, initiated the talks, and managed the subsequent M&A process. This included financial advice and the coordination of due diligence and contract negotiations from a commercial perspective.
"The acquisition reflects our commitment to becoming a leading provider of solutions for surgeries and procedures where visualization is crucial. We aim to offer holistic solutions that encompass both visualization and therapy. Entering the field of fluorescence imaging systems is a logical first step that adds significant value for our customers," says Christian O. Erbe, CEO and Managing Director of Erbe Elektromedizin GmbH. Maxer's innovative product portfolio perfectly complements Erbe's high-tech energy-emitting products, enabling the fulfillment of previously unmet user needs.
Seeing Better Means Operating Better
Maxer's innovation focus lies in developing high-end visualization equipment that delivers bright and razor-sharp multispectral images for NIR fluorescence-assisted surgery and standard white light images. With 4K and fluorescence-guided systems, Erbe can now offer groundbreaking performance in both endoscopy and open surgery, unrivaled in the industry.
In 2020, Maxer and its partners, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich and Technische Universität München (TUM), won first prize in the "Innovation Product" category of the German Medical Award for the Atlas project. This project aims to provide surgeons with a "GPS system" for advanced laparoscopic operations, increasing surgical precision and reducing complications and risks during oncological procedures, thereby improving patients' quality of life.
A Perfect Match with Excellent Growth Prospects
Maxer's philosophy and guiding principles align well with those of Erbe. The company has an impressive track record in high-tech devices over the past seven years and is well-positioned to capitalize on future opportunities, such as augmented reality-guided surgery. Maxer's broad portfolio of minimally invasive instruments complements Erbe's existing range perfectly.
"Our strong sales force and distribution partners will ensure that these outstanding instruments and multispectral imaging systems reach over 110 countries," explains Marcus C. Felstead, CMO of Erbe.
"The acquisition will enable the company to deliver breakthrough innovations in image-guided surgery faster," adds Shirish Joshi, CEO of Maxer.
